Goals
The importance that DoD places on the sustainment process is indicated by
the very ambitious goals it has articulated for the process, namely:
- Improve the adaptability of the logistics support chain
- Reduce the overall costs of sustainment in both legacy systems and upgrades
- Strengthen the industrial base
- Increase mission-capable rates by reducing the maintenance/repair/overhaul cycle time
It is the view of the DSC that the best way to achieve these ambitious goals is through the broad scale deployment of carefully selected and tested new technologies and business practices in four Thrust Areas, which in turn will require new relationships between DoD, its suppliers, and other suppliers.
Through a structured ranking process, the DSC established four Technical Thrusts for Best Practices, listed on the Thrust Areas page of this site. Each Thrust Area is comprised of a number of different elements that indicate different yet important aspects of the Thrust Area.
